About Artist

Jose Antonio Castellano Garrido

Jose Castellano is the founder of Biology for Divers and its main lecturer. He graduated in Zoology at the University of Granada, Spain and got later enrolled on various Marine Biology and Oceanography courses in the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. After his studies he wanted to leave the lab behind and go back to what had brought him to the university in the first place; his love for and interest in all the creatures of the sea. He pursued a career as a diver, discovering the underwater worlds of Egypt, Thailand, Spain, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Birma and Australia. As a dive guide he took thousands of people below the sea to explore it’s many beauties, and found himself explaining for hours to people what they had seen, how the creatures interact with their environment, and how they are all part of the same enormous ecosystem as ours; planet earth. His next step was to combine his academic knowledge and his passion for diving by developing an educational program to inform divers about what they see on their dives. He’s done this for several years now in liveaboards and loves to see the divers gain understanding of marine life and, therefore, enjoying their trips even more!
