About Artist

Francis Pérez

Francis Pérez, born in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, a professional underwater photographer, conservationist and economics degree from La Laguna University, Canary Islands, specialized in regional development economy. He began diving in 1994 and underwater photography in 2001. Ocean lover and enthusiastic diver, he focuses the underwater world with a unique style. His photographs show his own point of view in places such us Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt, South Africa, Mozambique, Micronesia, the Philippines, Galapagos, Papua (Indonesia), Mexico, Chile, Mauritius and especially the Canary Islands, his favorite place to dive. He started diving in 1994 and from 2001 on underwater photography with an analog reflex camera. Self-taught in its beginnings and in recent years as a student at the Municipal School of Photography of the Realejos de Tenerife. Regular contributor to National Geographic Spain on biodiversity issues in the marine environment of the Canary Islands. He has published in numerous prestigious national and international magazines such as National Geographic (USA and Spain), Aqua (Spain), Scuba Diving (USA), Sumerge (South Africa), Scuba Diver Australasia (Singapore), Dive Photo Guide (USA) ), GEO (Spain and Germany), Tauchen (Germany), Big Issue (Australia and Korea), Sportdiver (USA), and others. Currently he has more than 100 national and international publications. He has collaborated in several magazines and books, some of which are published worldwide, such as Silvia Earle's “Blue Hope” edited by National Geographic, whose cover is occupied by one of his photos, as well as the book for the 50th anniversary of the Red List of Endangered Species. the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Member of the SeaLegacy Collective 2019, it is a distinguished group of world-renowned photographers and filmmakers with a combined audience of more than 6.3 million people. Together, The Collective bring decades of experience and a diverse set of skills to documenting marine ecosystems. They are committed to lending their influence and sharing their work to further the SeaLegacy mission. Member of the steering committee of Whale Heritage Site 2020 Currently the Teno- Rasca- La Gomera marine strip is a Whale Heritage Site, it is an international accreditation that recognizes outstanding destinations that implement and celebrate the responsible and sustainable observation of cetaceans. This accreditation provides the tourism industry with a clear indicator to identify and support sustainable practices, as well as creating a platform for destinations to promote their culture, heritage and marine biodiversity. Member of the international steering committee of Tenerife- La Gomera World Biological Corridor recently signed by the Government of the Canary Islands, 2020. Founding member of Pelagic Life Canarias (Europe) 2017. Environmental association focuses on the pelagic life of the oceans based in the Canary Islands. In 2015 he was appointed a member of the international Ocean Artist Society. In recent years he has been awarded several international awards, in places such as the United States, Italy, France, Indonesia, Israel or Australia, Holland, London.
