About Artist
Andréa Lobel
Andréa Lobel is a photographer and visual artist from the Netherlands. Andréa regards her photography as a way of communicating her observations and thoughts. By the use of monochrome and by slightly altering the natural scenery or choosing an unusual point of view, she seeks to create a joint attention with the viewer. She says, “I always felt a strong desire to capture moments and to frame them, literally and figuratively. At some point, I learned that I could process information easier when I took imaginary pictures of the person or situation I was entangled in and framed them in my mind. It allowed me to rewind the situation and fill in the blanks that might accidentally have been left unnoticed. This way, my photos for me are like safe keepers of fragile memories.” Some of her photographs have been transferred onto transparency film and hung in floating frames, to emphasize the fragility of the memories and passing moments. Although firmly framed and captured by the camera, the transparency film leaves the image unprotected, ethereal, and blending into the surroundings. Andréa has been partially educated at the Academy for Photography and the School for Arts and Design. Her recent projects include Breeze (2022), Come Away (2023) Invisible Cities (2023), Untitled (2024), Bloom (2024) and The Water (2024, in progress).
