Four Colors and One Movement

This is part of a project that relates, through images, four colours to the transformative movement whereby each of them changes negative qualities into positive ones in the Buddhist tradition. In it, color symbolism is frequently used to present abstract concepts through visual images.

About Artist

Alejandra Nowiczewski

Alejandra Nowiczewski was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Besides being a photographer, she has a Degree in English-Spanish Translation from Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) and a Master’s Degree in Translation from Universidad de Belgrano. She is the author of the book Metáforas de sentencias judiciales de EE.UU. trasladadas a la doctrina y la jurisprudencia de la Argentina: su traducción al español [Metaphors in U.S. Court Opinions that are Employed in Argentine Court Decisions and Scholarly Texts: Their Translation from English into Spanish]. She has recently obtained a Master’s Degree in Photographic Projects from PhotoESPAÑA. Her work focuses on an equal commitment to both neatness in the formal and visual metaphor in the symbolic. In line with her training in the field of translation, Alejandra presents her photographic series as a visual and metaphorical reinterpretation of processes, concepts or essential texts. Through a meticulous search, she tries to select each shot to transcend mere representation. In this way, she manages not just to produce images, but to evoke atmospheres. Her photographs are born from mental inquiry, but materialize in the symbolic and metaphorical realms, fostering a universe full of meanings that go beyond the visual. Her artistic discourse simultaneously explores themes of social, philosophical or ecological significance, as well as narratives that are combined with aesthetic exercises in her work. She is currently working on ‘Wilk’, a project retracing the life of her father, a fighter in the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. The project, through travel and research, attempts to reconstruct personal memory, revealing what has remained secret, and also transmit historical memory to those who come after us.
