About Artist
Erika Howard
My work as a photographer is rooted in my background as both an art historian and a classical oil painter, informed by a close study of the Old Masters and their nuanced mastery of light, shadow, and tonal harmony. Their work was driven by an effort to move beyond surface appearance and to reveal a deeper sense of presence in their subjects. These principles continue to shape my artistic vision and my understanding of form. Through the lens, I seek not simply to capture, but to create images that are deliberate and structured—where light, composition, and atmosphere direct attention and shape meaning, revealing something felt rather than simply seen. Through portraits and documentation of daily moments they capture the richness and diversity of the world’s ethnic cultures. Providing a glimpse into the vanishing cultures of people who are striving to hold onto their heritage in a rapidly changing world.
