Between Ropes

Caught between the beauty of its ocean home and the dangers of human impact, this Antillean manatee is one of only 110 believed to remain on the island. It navigates Dominican Republic's reefs where fishing lines, boat strikes, and habitat loss threaten its survival every day.

Ysabela Coll

Ysabela Coll is a Dominican underwater photographer and visual artist, recognized as the first woman from the Dominican Republic to become a professional underwater photographer. Drawing on a background in psychology and fine art photography, she creates images that transcend documentation, exploring the emotional and sensory dimensions of the ocean through her art. Her work seeks to foster a deeper connection between humans and the marine environment, encouraging both wonder and conservation. Ysabela’s photographs and artworks have been exhibited internationally, including at Sotheby’s Belgium and the World Trade Organization in Switzerland, and have received recognition in prestigious international photography competitions. More of her work can be discovered through Álvarez+Coll Photo, a conservation and fine art company she co-founded with her stepfather, dedicated to celebrating the beauty of the ocean and inspiring its protection for future generations.
