AS ONE

A herd of impalas gathers on the plains of Serengeti. Seen from behind, individual animals merge into a single visual form. The repeating patterns of bodies, tails and horns reveal the strength of collective behaviour, where survival depends not on the individual, but on the unity of the group.

About Artist

Monica L Corcuera

Monica L Corcuera is a Mexican award-winning Fine Art and Wildlife photographer, published author and passionate advocate for wildlife conservation. Her work is deeply rooted in respect for nature and driven by a lifelong commitment to protecting wildlife and wild places. Her passion for animals began in childhood, inspired by her parents: her mother, a fine art painter, writer, and conservationist; and her father, whose travels across Africa and vivid stories of safari adventures fostered in her a profound connection with the natural world. These early influences shaped her artistic vision and ignited a desire to explore, document, and protect wildlife. In 2011 she embarked on her first photographic safari to Africa, discovering a continent that would forever shape her artistic vision and conservation mission. She also published her first novel, The English Photographer, addressing the environmental impact of gold mining in Tanzania. Through years of observation and ethical field practices, Monica portrays wildlife as sentient beings rather than distant subjects. Her images focus on subtle interactions, generational bonds, and moments of quiet strength, inviting viewers to reflect on humanity’s responsibility toward nature. She has photographed extensively across Africa, including Zimbabwe, Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, South Africa, and Botswana, with a particular focus on endangered species and keystone animals essential to ecological balance. Her work has received international recognition for its emotional depth and conservation-driven vision. Beyond photography, Monica strives to inspire empathy for wildlife and raise awareness about habitat loss, climate change, and biodiversity preservation. She uses visual storytelling as a powerful tool for education and advocacy, honouring wildlife heritage while contributing meaningfully to global conservation efforts. She continues to return to Africa with a clear sense of purpose: to protect, document and give voice to the wild, using photography as a bridge between people and the natural world.
