About Artist

Tom Cawthon

Tom Cawthon is a self-taught photographer who splits his time between Florida, New England and Belize. As a young man he spent countless hours photographing the natural world near his home in North Florida; also covering sports for a local university. Tom shaped his interest in the creative realm into a long career leading graphic design, commercial photography and videography teams. His fine art and street photography has been described as having a photojournalistic aspect.   After making the transition to fine art and street photography, Cawthon’s focus returned to exploring the environment, and the human interactions that take place within it. Tom works in both color and black and white and his images are characterized by subtle nuances of light, texture and atmosphere, often contrasted with uniquely framed structural design elements. Whether street photography, abstract elements of the natural world, or still lifes, all of Cawthon’s work shows a strong dedication to detail and composition, contributing to his stated goal of “encapsulating moments of beauty, form and emotion.”                                                                                                                                               His photographic works have been featured in numerous exhibitions and collections at galleries, institutions and restaurants in New England and Belize, winning both jurors’ awards and People’s Choice accolades. He is currently creating a collection for the Museum of Belize.
