Marco Di Marco is a Sicilian visual journalist and photographer based in Reykjavík, Iceland. He began documenting Mount Etna’s eruptions in 2011 for local news agencies in Sicily, developing an early interest in the relationship between people and active natural environments. After relocating to Iceland in 2018, he joined The Associated Press as a freelance photojournalist. Since 2021, he has covered Iceland’s frequent volcanic eruptions and other major events for the global agency, often working in the field under challenging and fast-changing conditions. With an academic background in geology and volcanology from the University of Catania, Di Marco combines technical understanding with a journalistic approach, translating complex geological processes into clear, factual visual documentation. His work focuses on accuracy, accessibility, and context, aiming to inform both the general public and specialized audiences. His photographs and videos have been published by leading international outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, TIME Magazine, CNN, BBC, National Geographic, ABC, CBS, Fox News, and The Guardian, among others.
