About Artist
Agathe Bernard
Hi, I'm Agathe — an explorer, photographer and student of life who has long had a passion for the world and an eye for the beauty it contains. I was seven years old when I received my first camera. This moment, combined with many National Geographic documentaries about Jane Fonda, Jacques Cousteau, famous volcanologists, and Indiana Jones films, led me to want to be an explorer of this beautiful planet. Come college, I discovered the darkroom where I fell in love with the magic of making my images and exploring perspectives and black and white. Still, before pursuing my passion for photography, I became a geologist and lived in some of the most remote places on this planet. With an extra 20 lbs of camera gear always on me, it soon became apparent that I was more drawn to my camera than my field notes. As luck would have it, I met a producer from National Geographic who took me under his wing and showed me the ropes of what it is to be a professional photographer. Since then, I have been recognized as an award-winning commercial and adventure photographer/filmmaker. I won the honourable title of "Best Aerial Nature Photographers" by National Geographic in 2017 and was selected by Nikon as "100 of the best photos in 100 years". My work has appeared in National Geographic, Canadian Mining Journal, Globe and Mail, Powder, FreeSkier, Ski Journal, Kootenay Mountain Culture, Highline, Mountaineer, Kootenay Business, Canadian and newspapers worldwide. Today, I find purpose in sharing my expertise and knowledge as an earth scientist to empower people. Hence, I reinvest a large portion of my income to create environmental media. Through my work, I'm excited by the opportunity to live a life of exploration and to share the incredible stories of people and places that inspire — from kelp forest to remote glaciers, to forest dancers and Trashion shows, come discover it all one picture at a time.
