About Artist

Steve Chinn

Photography is in my blood! My father was a very successful portrait photographer. I studied commercial art, graphic design, printing, textile design and computer graphics and realized that I was interested in the pursuit of visual communication...but did not expect photography to be the medium for my creative outlet. Since 1992, I have had extensive travels throughout the US, Asia, Australia, Africa, Brazil, and New Zealand for work as a ski and tennis instructor or just seeing the sights. I documented these travels with photography, hearing my father's silent coaching and critiquing. When I received purchase offers for my images I began to rethink my life paths and goals. Soon I was asked to build a photo library for a local advertising business, a process that filled the next two years. This experience gave me a more in-depth understanding of traditional photography, a working knowledge of digital photography, and the photo print preparation process. But, most of all, I discovered the importance of capturing nature's light. My father believed that the success of a photograph was dependent upon the lighting and composition, not the latest equipment with all the ‘bells and whistles”...and I believe that, too. I have been a free-lance photographer shooting a wide range of subjects since 2000 including Reuters Media. My work has been seen and numerous local publications as well as national publications such as USA Today, Washington Post, People, Us, Enquirer, Ski, Skiing, Powder, Outside magazine and with accolades in “Black & White” fine art photography magazine. I have work has been displayed in many venues and galleries throughout Colorado.
