About Artist

Rhonda Bratton

I was born and raised in a small West Texas town where folks worked the hardscrabble ground as dirt farmers or oil field workers and merchants who served both. I have a deep appreciation and a passion for telling the stories through my photography of these salt of the earth people whose lives depend on the soil or sea who brought their faith and perseverance to bear on both. I capture imagery such as rural landscapes, a farm tool, a piece of oil field equipment, a shrimp boat, etc. to represent this historical lifestyle of victory over hardship. Similar to my passion for shedding light on a community of people, a project that I am currently focusing on is unearthing the beauty of wild horses. The allure that draws me in and that I try to capture through my photography is their fight to survive since their introduction into North America in the early 1500s on what little the West provided them.
