About Artist
Charles Crain
My life's work has been to capture character in the human face, provide truthful still images, utilize available light and employ a photojournalistic conversational approach. When Charles bought his first Nikon SLR the resulting studies were of derelict architecture, machinery and also street photography - a genre that the New York Times has called "...shots of everyday people living out their private lives in public". In this type of portraiture, he has the keen ability to capture life experiences reflected in faces and gestures. For this and carefully composed imagery of man-made objects in the natural landscape, he believes it is important to utilize available light for the best effect on the first take. His concentration is Fine Art with a recent variant to the film & television industry and, has developed several series documenting various ethnic groups, including Native American, Hispanic and Refugee communities. This country continues to evolve and its diversity changes with every new generation and wave of immigration. The goal of these endeavors has been to celebrate this transformation with portraits of dignity and distinction. A native of South Louisiana, Charles has been influenced by its unique Cajun & Creole legacy, extraordinary musicians, artists & photographers. He is a founding member of the New Orleans Photo Alliance and has exhibited in Athens (Greece), Austin, Bucks County, Barcelona, Budapest, Chania (Crete), Fernandina Beach, Fort Collins, Glasgow, Hanoi, Hyderabad, Lafayette, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne (Australia) , Miami, New Orleans, New York, Omaha, Rome, San Diego, Scottsdale, Trieste, Portland and Wilmington. Charles' work has been recognized in international competitions and is housed within various private & museum collections. His work has been published in numerous monographs, magazines and gallery exhibition catalogues.
