About Artist

Matilde Simas

Matilde Simas is a visual journalist based in Boston. She graduated from Suffolk University with a BS in Psychology and Women’s Study and attended Rhode Island School Design to study digital photography. Matilde’s work as a photographer, guided by her primary role of humanitarian, has taken her around the globe. Her work’s primary focus is human rights, with the goal being to leverage storytelling to inform, provoke discussion, and ultimately inspire action. Matilde's photography has been showcased internationally and widely exhibited by various UN agencies. ​​​​​​ In 2017, Matilde founded Capture Humanity, an organization founded on bringing awareness to human rights issues. Matilde's efforts have led to collaborations with many community-based organizations including Freedom for All, Voice of the Free Philippines, ChildVoice Uganda and HAART Kenya. Her images have been published in the US Trafficking in Persons Report, a leading global report published by the US State Department to build awareness, educate, and propose solutions to the global issue of human trafficking.
