About Artist
Camila Chaves
I have captured and documented the two largest urban infrastructure renovations in the world at the turn of the century. These provocative historic images of the landscape transformations of Berlin from 1994-2004 and the largest federally funded project known as the Big Dig of Boston from 1998-2011 are key records. My most recent project is the historic book, Iconic Cambridge, with a foreword by Charles M. Sullivan, Executive Director of the Cambridge Historical Commission highlights 800 spectacular photographs, detailed maps, and delightful text, depicts a glorious educational community with unique and delightful events, people, and architecture. This commemorative 380-page book consists of geographic maps, aerial landscapes, detailed descriptions of Cambridge locales, and highlights of Cambridge’s movers and shakers. Featuring unique perspectives of bio-tech labs, university dorms, boathouses, and other classic features of Cambridge, as well as coverage of the Head of the Charles Regatta, the 150th anniversary of MIT, the 50th anniversary of the Cambridge Historical Commission, and the opening of Harvard University Museums. Furthermore, the book includes the historic Brattle Street with its Tory mansions and the only heritage cemetery- Mount Auburn. The reader will not forget the city of education, innovation, and preservation in America. In 2019, Iconic Cambridge was awarded the best photo book of the year by the Independent Publishers of New England.
