About Artist
Debbie Scott-Queenin
Prior to my current life as a photographer, I was an urban planner specializing in seaports. Throughout my work assignments and travels, both domestically and internationally, I discovered that human nature is the same wherever you go, regardless of the political bias, native tongue and/or culture, and how important it is to respect the world’s unique surroundings and the privacy of others. Carrying that forward, during the pandemic, I made a conscious effort to step back, slow down, empathize, explore my feelings, show up, and to try to manifest those feelings in meaningful efforts with my photography. As I document “what I see”, I’ve come to respect even more the notion that I am a “guest” within each new place or realm, regardless of what/where it is or what it represents. In a sense, I try to become a part of that other world, while at the same time, escaping from mine, giving me leeway to explore new adventures. And for me, photography also presents itself as an opportunity to ruminate, and to act on (or act out!) creative inclinations.
