Multi Exposures in an Urban Environment.

MEs freeze layers in a single image, giving the scene a dynamic, surreal look. Fine lines in the structures create a mesh-like pattern & color patches merge smoothly. Horizontal/vertical shifts, rotations around a point/variations of the focal length are applied in camera to create the final image.

About Artist

Peter Fauland

I’ve been working as an architecture and cityscapes Photographer across Europe for around 20 years now. My professional career began on the French side of the Lake of Geneva, Switzerland (2002), followed by ten years in the German capital Berlin (2008) where event photography (Berlinale and Fashion Week) was added to my fields of activity, and now for a year and a half, both the company headquarters and the center of my personal life have been in Baden-Baden, Black Forest, Germany, focusing full-time on architecture, cityscapes and real estate/interior. My love of traveling and working on interesting photographic projects allows me to constantly broaden my (photographic) horizons – a rich source of artistic inspiration. Besides my commercial photography, I work as a coach for the FUJIFILM School, Germany (mainly specialising in Architectural and Lost Places Photography). A selection of publications includes ‘Schwarz-Weiss’ Magazine (DE), ‘Middle East Photography’ Magazine, ‘PHOTOGRAPHIE’ Magazine (DE), the ‘British Journal of Photography’, ‘Variety Magazine, de La Warr Pavillion’ (UK), ‘FINE ART PRINTER’ Magazine (DE), a ‘Spotlight Feature Article’ in B&W Magazine, ‘The World’s Greatest Black & White Photography Vol 1, book BASIL, the Carl Zeiss Lens BLog as well as several exhibitions with ‘Paola Trevisan Arte, Ferrara (IT), Marziart, Hamburg (DE), UFO studios, Berlin (DE), Strand Gallery, London (UK), Gallery Steiner, Vienna (AT) and the Musee de l’Elysee, Lausanne (CH). At the moment the project ‘Multi-Exposures in an Urban Environment’ comprises around 250 works, taken in Berlin, Duesseldorf, Duisburg, Lausanne, Hamburg, Konstanz, Paris, Strasbourg and Stuttgart. In the coming months shootings are planned in Frankfurt, London, Bilbao and Marseille. Architecture Photography is all about geometry, a precise layout of the line and a strong perspective. Placing the camera a few inches left or right has the effect of a lateral displacement of image layers in the foreground, middle-ground and background and is therefore the Photographer’s “secret tool” to transform his/her vision of the scene into a photographic work of art. Controlling this in the viewfinder of your camera is one of the preparatory steps. Multi-Exposures are freezing numerous layers in one single image, giving the scene a dynamic, most often surreal look and feel. Fine lines in the structures of buildings create a mesh-like pattern and color patches merge smoothly. Horizontal or vertical shifts, rotations around one central, compositorial point as well as variations of the focal length (zoom) are applied directly in camera to create the final image.
