About Artist
John Lauritsen
“John Lauritsen shares his experience of the natural world by highlighting the texture and color of the scenes around him.He evokes both calm and wonder by taking you on a journey to explored locations.” John Lauritsen is an explorer who lives in a tiny house on his wife’s historic family farm in Maryland. John’s favorite way to find new scenes to photograph is traveling on foot. His travels range from hiking in national parks across the country to trail running in the park just a few miles from home. In 2005 he thru-hiked the entire Appalachian trail. Since then he has continued to travel by foot whenever he gets the chance, totaling over 10,000 miles so far throughout the United States. He started photography in 1994 with his fathers old Minolta XG 1 film camera. John’s first award, an honorable mention, was with KINSA, the Kodak International Newspaper Snapshot Awards. Since then he has expanded his work to include teaching photography workshops and classes. Photography is a natural extension of John’s creative mind, as he thinks in pictures. The magic of the forest and natural world is where John feels most alive.
