About Artist

Matthias Forster

I‘m particularly interested in topics of public space. In my work I examine the traces and habitats of contemporary civilisa- tion. The artefacts and found objects are a legacy of culture. I also examine the relationship between man and the environment. Further I love the tension between chaos and order. In another field of work I focus on the balancing act between photography and painting. As a hunter and collector, my archive is the starting point for these works. Various techniques from the photography and the painting are used for the works. I was born in Switzerland in 1976. Already as a child, the camera and crayons were my favourite way to express myself. I graduated as an architect, later on I attended a self-taught photographer class and completed my photography studies at the Swiss school of journalism. I travelled Asia extensively and spent a lot of time exploring major cities. I mainly work on long term projects.
