Zero Luxury
At 65 years old, farmer José Assis, from São Bento do Sapucaí (SP), embodies life in harmony with nature. He lives by the motto he himself coined: 'Zero Luxury'. More than a term, the expression defines his philosophy of absolute detachment from material possessions and appreciation for simplicity.
About Artist
André Porto
With a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning, André Porto has been a professional photographer since 1998, working for major newspapers and magazines such as Folha de S. Paulo, Agora São Paulo, IstoÉ, Rolling Stone, and Metro newspaper. Throughout his career, he has been recognized with important national and international awards. In 2003, he won the Folha de S. Paulo Photo of the Year Award and received an Honorable Mention in the Vladimir Herzog Journalism Award for Amnesty and Human Rights. In 2013, one of his works also won third place in the Arfoc-SP Photo of the Year Award. More recently, in 2021, he won first place in the Culture category of the Chromatic Awards, in addition to an honorable mention in the Photojournalism category, with photos taken for UOL reports. In 2023, he received three honorable mentions in the Portrait and Street Photography categories, again at the Chromatic Awards. In parallel, he works as a photographer at the Juntos pelo Capão Charitable Association, a Third Sector institution that promotes educational and cultural initiatives in the Capão Redondo community, in the southern part of the city of São Paulo. Born in São José dos Campos, in the State of São Paulo, André currently divides his time between the cities of São Paulo and São Bento do Sapucaí, where he has a permanent address and dedicates himself to nature photography and local projects.
