Spring in Izu Oshima turns the seafloor into a mystical purple world of glowing algae. I waited patiently for a sign of life until a green sea turtle drifted into the frame. I quietly captured this ethereal, dreamlike moment—a fleeting seasonal wonder that felt truly magical.

About Artist

Kirin Sekito

Nature Photographer Kirin Sekito was born in Tokyo to a French father and a Japanese mother. Kirin started diving and worked as a diving instructor in Okinawa when he was 20 years old. He left Japan and spent two years gaining experience as a diving guide on a luxury dive cruise on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Before returning to Japan, he bought a camera and studied photography on his own while traveling around the Australian continent by car. After completing his travels, Kirin returned to Japan where he now works as a freelance photographer, he traveled around the world for few dive magazines in Japan and start making video for dive industry as well. After the pandemic he traveled around Japan and focusing to photograph the beautiful ocean of Japan in wide angle photography and now he has a big passion to show his pictures to who has interest in Japan seas.
