the inverse universe
These images are collages of electron microscopy images of single mineral grains with black and white landscapes, set against the dark sky as if they were planets or stars, waiting to be explored. In a way they are. A whole world hides in these grains. The closer we look, the more we discover.

Maartje Hamers
Maartje Hamers (b.1981) is a photographer based in the Netherlands, graduated from Fotoacademie Amsterdam in May 2025. Her work is heavily influenced by her background in Earth Sciences and microscopy. She is fascinated by textures, details and shapes. Time, scale and the Earth are recurring themes in her work.
