Take-off
As I photographed this resin bee (Anthidiellum strigatum) sleeping with its mandibles clamped onto a dry stem, it began to wake up. Suddenly, it took a test flight, but did not let go of the stem. The image is composed of three single shots taken in succession. 100mm / f8 / 1/1600s / ISO3200 + flash
About Artist
Stephanie Rübenach
Stephanie Rübenach (*1983) initially worked as a political scientist. However, as she was also interested in many other areas, she decided to train as a bookseller in 2012. This allowed her to immerse herself in books on photography and biological topics. When she leased an allotment garden in 2017, these 300 squaremeters quickly became a kind of ecological and photographic “playground": The garden was gradually redesigned to be wild bee-friendly, and the success (in the form of new bee visitors) was photographically documented. A regular exchange with nature photographers and scientists led to a significant increase in the photographer's knowledge of species and a further improvement of the photographic results. Overmore this resulted in the photographic exhibition "Wild Bees in Regensburg. Unknown Beauty, Endangered Diversity," which was developed in collaboration with Robert Zimmermann from the University of Regensburg and Dr. Christine Schmidt and presented at the East Bavarian Natural History Museum in 2023. Since then, the exhibition has moved on, she has annually published a calendar about wild bees in the region, has given lectures on the practice of wild bee conservation and has made herself a name as a nature photographer.
