Stuck Above the Surface
This monochromatic image speaks to the invisible barriers faced by those living in the bottom margins of every society. Even though in plain sight, the figure remains climbing yet unseen and unheard by the observant world. This image serves as a stark reflection of what many people face daily.
About Artist
Owen Prucey
Hello, my name is Owen Emerson Prucey, and I am a recent 18-year-old Japanese American high school graduate from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I developed a profound passion for photography starting from my iPhone and a deep curiosity about the world around me in middle school. Having such boundless creative freedom as a kid is something I can never be more grateful for. Even though I have never taken a traditional photography class, I learned by constantly experimenting, observing, and pushing myself to grow. I love to travel, experience new cultures, and take impactful photos! I am very grateful to have been recognized by Porsche as well as receiving, 11 Honorable Mentions in the International Photography Awards, 2 Honorable Mentions in the Scholastic Highschool Competition, 5 Finalist Certificates in the Architecture photography Awards, and a feature in the Drexel Highschool photo competition exhibition. I have also received feedback from photographers such as Stephen Shore, Alex Webb/Rebecca Norris Webb, and Mustafah Abdulaziz. These accomplishments continue to motivate me but connecting with people and making the world slightly better through photography is what truly pushes me to improve the most.
