Ukraine, Horishni Plavni, 2018 – 2025 This series documents seven years in the life of Serafima and Jevhen, a couple who shared a life together for 65 years. Jevhen’s dementia, Serafima’s care, and the quiet shadow of war show how love, patience, and humanity sustain life through pain.

Sofia Samoylova
Sofia Samoylova, born in 1990, is a German-Ukrainian photographer and filmmaker. Her work is often very personal but also addresses collective themes. Since 2014, she has been documenting the war in the Ukrainian Donbass and has exhibited her photo series internationally. With the series "Serafima & Jevhen", she was a finalist for the Israeli Meitar Award, shortlisted for the German Felix Schöller Peace Prize for Photography, and placed fourth in the Italian Langhe Foto Prize.
