Resting Place
This whale carcass lay stranded on a beach in Iceland, as a tourist explored Vestrahorn with its dramatic black mountains and extensive flat beach. Whales are a sensitive subject in Iceland where whaling is legal and whale meat can be found in restaurants. Only the rarest species are protected.
About Artist
Gerardine Gannon
I grew up in regional Australia, where I often witnessed the power of nature, both the good and the bad. Occasionally nature could be both beautiful and brutal at the same time, but it always left me in awe, kickstarting my interest in photographing nature and the world around me. I then came to Melbourne where I worked as a designer but was interested in photography from early on, often using it in our marketing tools. In the last 5 years I have been able to concentrate fully on my photography, steering back towards nature and photojournalism. In 2024, I was very honoured to begin to receive international awards and receive recognition for my work. In just 2 years, I have received 12 awards, including a Gold and Bronze in PX3, 2 Silver awards in APP, and a 2nd and 3rd in IPA. I have had 3 works displayed in digital exhibitions.
