Renaissance
About Artist
Maria Dolores Mancosu
Born in Cagliari in 1961, Maria Dolores Mancosu lives in Villamassargia, Sardinia, Italy. She graduated in Modern Literature from the University of Cagliari and teaches Italian Literature and History in high schools. She has worked in the organization of cultural events. Since childhood, she has cultivated a passion for poetry, the figurative arts, and photography, which she calls "Poetry of Light." Through her photographs, taken exclusively with natural light and freehand, she represents the men and women, human and natural environments of Sardinia, her homeland, a space of shared identity. By weaving the fine lace of the image, she opens herself to the representation of interior spaces and the places of existence, just as memory and reality itself evoke them. Her photographic works evoke the faces of women and men, beautiful in their dignity, intelligence, and kindness, humility and grace; gentle and attentive to the daily dimension of their existence, to food, the blessed child of the sun, of sweat, of patience. She develops the typical Sardinian idea of home: "Sa domu est piticca, su coru est mannu" (the house is small, the heart is big). And Home is Nature, never foreign to man, a family of plants and animals to be preserved and cared for. And it is precisely the concept of "common Home" that inspires her shots: the space of a room, of a table illuminated by the sun, is the Place where vital and irreplaceable balances between beings are preserved and recomposed. In the small space of a room, the light welcomes and expands the naive and popular, yet no less intense, image of love for Creation and the Creator. The fruits of the earth and the animals become the center of the image, seen with eyes full of love and respect. That respect and love that our planet urgently demands today.
