Misty mountain sunset

Cold rain on Pirin Mountain ascent set the stage for the followed events. As sunset approached, the freshly soaked ground began to warm under the sun forming what are known as “thermal chimneys” or simply “thermals.” These vertical currents added an unexpected dynamism to the stillness of the scene.
