One of the most poignant processions in the Christian world, during Holy Week in Italy. Participating women, completely dressed in black, parade through the streets of the village of Canosa di Puglia, intoning a 13th century hymn honoring the pain of Desolate Mary for the loss of Her Child.

Athanasios Maloukos

Athanasios Maloukos is an award-winning travel photographer specializing in world religions, disappearing rituals, and sacred ceremonies. With a background in Civil Engineering (NPA) and Anthropology of Religion (UCLA), his work spans from Siberian shamanism to Anatolian mysticism, from African spiritual trance to Himalayan monastic solitude. His visual storytelling has earned recognition in prestigious international competitions and has been exhibited worldwide. His images aim to reveal the divine where culture, belief, and mystery converge, in the sacred margins of human experience.
