Kawah Ijen – Breath of Sulfur

In the Kawah Ijen crater, Java, miners extract sulfur through toxic volcanic fumes and near-total darkness. Guided by headlamps, they carry heavy loads across unstable terrain, embodying endurance, survival, and human dignity in one of Earth’s most extreme working environments.

About Artist

Emilio Fuliotti

My name is Emilio Fuliotti, and I am a self-taught amateur photographer with a strong passion for photography. Professionally, I work as a bus driver in Tuscany, but in my free time I go out taking pictures, searching for details, atmospheres, and fragments of everyday life. Photography, for me, is a way to observe the world carefully and bring home a small piece of it, little by little.
