Human ghosts reflect on the Atomic Dome
From the viewpoint of the Peace Museum in Hiroshima, people reflect on a mural of devastation from the first Atomic Bomb.
About Artist
Suzanne Chandler
I am a visual artist working in digital photography, film-video, collage, oil, acrylic, mixed media. After earning a BFA in Studio Arts-Fine Art Photography and BA in Art History over four decades ago, my first employment in 1981 was as a broadcast photojournalist at KMGH TV in Denver. Being on staff provided the perfect vehicle to pitch stories to my news director that were not told as much as they are today. A woman behind the camera asking questions after a rape or covering domestic violence could help a victim feel more comfortable. Just doing our jobs provided role models for young girls who often asked me how I got my job. in 1990, I earned recognition from the National Press Photographers Association as a "Top Ten Photojournalist Of The Year in the Rocky Mountain Region" for my spot news, feature photography and editing coverage. This was a huge honor that I am proud of to today. For over 4 decades I have covered often traumatic events for a variety of news broadcasts from 60 Minutes to ESPN. For decades I coped with the trauma I covered by painting on huge canvases or using my still camera. I have a camera in my hand or paintbrush since grade school capturing a variety of images, some for pleasure, much for clients. Recently I had three abstract images in a juried photo exhibition In Denver. I was thrilled. My photographic work is diverse - from slow shutter abstracts and fine art, to portraits, landscapes, sports, events, wildlife, news, documentary, editorial, and everything in between. My degrees in Fine Art Photography and Art History "way back when" taught me how to see light and anticipate action, creating a pleasing composition in a 2D frame. I am a lifelong learner. I enjoyed earning a Masters degree in 2011 on a mission to teach and share with new voices the power of visual media to change lives and some laws. I worked in higher education from 2011- 2018 - super proud of my students accomplishments - and myself. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had all these years to earn a living following my passions as a photographer, artist, and visual storyteller. I am excited and grateful as my current chapter unfolds as I continue to capture images, creating art, telling visual stories through diverse photographic methods.
