Fading
Medium format color film, 6×9. The suburbs of California's South Bay, 2020–2025. Portraits of the absent. The structures hold. The certainty that they will keep holding does not.
About Artist
Mischa Lluch
I was born in Madrid and grew up on film and television sets. I began my career assisting photographers before moving into the camera department for film and advertising, eventually establishing myself as a director of photography. I have shot feature films and hundreds of commercials across more than forty countries. My cinematography work has been recognized at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the San Sebastián International Film Festival, and the Goya Awards. Fine art photography has run parallel to my work in cinema throughout my career. My project Fading — five years shooting the suburban landscapes of California's South Bay on medium format color film, 6×9, between 2020 and 2025 — has been recognized with a 3rd Place at the Sony World Photography Awards and the FMoPA International Photography Competition, a Silver at TIFA Tokyo and AnalogSparks Los Angeles, and a Winner at ProfiFoto Talent Award 2025. The work has been exhibited at Somerset House, London, Museo Diocesano Milano, the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Tampa, OFF Arles, PHotoESPAÑA Madrid, and Fotogipfel Oberstdorf, among others.
