Double Drummer Cicada
A Double Drummer cicada (Thopha saccate) emerging from its nymph skin on a burnt bloodwood tree in the Dharawal National Park in New South Wales, Australia. This is the largest Australian species of cicada and reputedly the loudest insect in the world.
About Artist
Keith Horton
I take photos mostly of nature in my area, the Illawarra, south of Sydney in Australia. There's an incredible variety of ecosystems in this area, including rainforests, eucalypt forests and woodlands, heaths, upland and lowland swamps, and coastal sand scrub, to name just a few of the broad categories. So there is always lots to photograph. Many of these ecosystems are under threat, though, so I hope that my photographs can play a role in their preservation.
