Cut surface of a felled tree with microplants
Tree trunks stacked by the side of the road are often covered in fascinating patterns created by microorganisms, including mosses, lichens, fungi etc. These patterns are most visible on the cut surfaces of felled trees. A beauty often overlooked despite the organisms' diverse and interesting shapes.
About Artist
Martin Luzi Büechi
I started photography at the age of twelve and gained my first experience in the darkroom developing film and making prints while I was still in school. Later, during my studies, I was able to further improve my photographic skills thanks to access to a professional laboratory for micro- and microphotography. Alongside my studies in microbiology, I focused primarily on landscape photography. After graduating, I worked for different international organizations in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Even though it was sometimes difficult to take photos, especially in war zones like Lebanon and Cambodia, I kept taking pictures. It wasn’t until after I retired that I took up photography seriously again.
