Breath of Shadows
A quiet study of identity suspended between concealment and revelation. The veil disrupts the surface of the face, fragmenting presence while intensifying the gaze. Light and shadow operate not as opposites, but as interdependent forces—shaping a space where vulnerability and control coexist.
About Artist
Sima Bivolarska-Stoyanova
I am a portrait photographer and retoucher based in Bulgaria, where I live and work while continuously seeking inspiration through travel. I have been involved in photography for over a decade, with more than five years of professional experience. My work focuses on creating emotionally driven fine art portraits that exist between reality and abstraction. I am drawn to light, texture, and subtle expression, using them to build images that feel both intimate and cinematic. Retouching is an essential part of my process—not as correction, but as an extension of the image itself. It allows me to shape atmosphere and move beyond the literal, creating a more interpretative visual language. I am primarily inspired by people. Through my work, I explore the space between what is visible and what is felt, reconstructing reality through emotion, atmosphere, and quiet transformation. My work has been recognized in international photography awards, and I continue to explore the evolving relationship between photography and artificial intelligence as part of my creative practice.
