Breaking Away
A joyful child pulls a nun along a wall in Dolores Hidalgo, Mexico, birthplace of the 1810 revolution with Hidalgo’s famous “Cry. of Dolores.” The city’s Independence Day decorations enhance the symbolism of the child pulling away, echoing Mexico’s break from Spain to assert its independence.
About Artist
Barry Crosthwaite
My passion for photography and travel began in childhood, inspired by National Geographic. In university, with my first proper camera and B&W film, this interest grew. After a year traveling in Europe and North Africa with Kodachrome, I chose a career in business and finance over art school. Fortunately, my finance career allowed me to travel and continue developing my photography. Since retiring in 2021, I’ve focused on exploring the other side of my mind, inspired by light, color, and the world’s diversity.
