Attachment

Consumed by the fabric, the subject seeks comfort through attachment. Inspired by the “Centre Stage Effect,” the work explores gravitation toward centrally positioned options - like the middle-toned fabric - as they are often perceived as safer, alongside attachment to material objects for security.

About Artist

Dulcie May

From a young age, I was drawn to grey lead pencil drawing and as an adult, I found my creative voice with photography. My work reflects my personal journey as a woman - both physically and emotionally, through an intimate, contemplative approach. I am drawn to figurative, abstract, and narrative-driven pieces that explore identity, femininity, and human connection. Born in Australia with Dutch heritage, I grew up with little connection to my extended family in Holland. It wasn’t until my early twenties that I met a relative who is a sculpture artist. Discovering the artistic thread in my family and the uncanny similarities between us - deepened my drive to express my own figurative style.
