Angel of the Grasslands
Each winter I visit the short-eared owls in nearby grasslands. When one lands on a mullein-stalk, I know it will soon dive into the grasses and emerge with a vole. I’ve read that they can see the voles’ urine trails and hear them scurrying about and munching on vegetation.

Rebecca (Becky) DePorte is an award-winning wildlife photographer. Her photographs have been published in USA Today, FotoNostrom, BirdWatching Magazine, Gardener’s Journal, and Backroads active travel catalog. In 2024 she received awards from International Photography Awards, Audubon Photography awards, and the 24th Julia Margaret Cameron Award. Becky teaches Wildlife Photography at Princeton Adult School. Her favorite subjects to photograph are animals with fur or feathers. Each time she photographs a new species she researches its history, conservation status, behavior, and habitat.
