Bio

Gabriel Sanchez is a Photo Editor at The New York Times based in New York City. He holds an MFA in Photography from Parsons School for Design and was the previous Senior Photo Essay Editor at BuzzFeed. Since 2013, Sanchez has written as a contributing art critic for Artforum International Magazine, continuing to offer colorful commentary across an array of media and culture. In 2020, he released his first major book via Prestel Publishing titled “In the Limelight: The Visual Ecstasy of NYC Nightlife in the 90s,” which explores New York City's ’90s club scene through a collection of rare and never-before-seen pictures. Alongside his ongoing duties at The New York Times, Sanchez continues to engage and cultivate new talent within the industry as an adjunct professor of photography at Parsons The New School and through community engagement events such as the reFocus Awards.
