Megan is motivated by exceptional design, so it's no surprise helping collectors find works that elevate their homes is one of her favorite parts of her job. We're thrilled to have Megan's eye for talent here as a judge at the reFocus Awards.

There is room in this space for everyone.

Q:

What is the most impactful project you've ever worked on to date?

A:

Probably the most impactful project I worked on early on at Saatchi Art. Our client was the owner of a marketing agency that was completing a home he had designed in Palm Desert, CA. He had a long creative career and a wealth of knowledge and experience. The opportunity to get to know this fascinating gentleman, learn about his approach to collecting, and work with him on his selection of several unique pieces, exemplifies my favorite aspects of my job learning about people, discovering new work, and bringing them together.

Q:

What advice would you give to photographers looking to expand their practices?

A:

Develop your unique style and be relentless in pursuing it. There is room in this space for everyone. Artists often worry too much about what clients are looking for rather than what they want to put into the world. Find a practice you love and go with it. You never know where it may lead you.

Q:

What are you looking forward to about being a judge at the reFocus Awards?

A:

I love to see new work and learn about artists I’m not yet familiar with. I can’t wait to see what this group will show us!

Q:

If you could own the work of one artist, photographer, or otherwise (and regardless if it is in a museum or collection), what work or artist would it be?

A:

That’s a hard one! I’ll go with the first thing that came to mind, a Rothko.

Q:

Who are some of your favorite photographers working today?

A:

Gregory Crewdson, James Casebere, Tabitha Soren, Saatchi Art artist Xan Padron, and Saatchi Art alum Tawny Chatmon

Q:

What first sparked your interest in pursuing a career in the arts?

A:

From an early age, I remember my father spending a lot of time at the local camera store. It was just a hobby, but the equipment, processing, and store were all so fascinating. He had also been a trombone player, and jazz was an early soundtrack to my life. My mom was a former flight attendant who had traversed the world and brought back souvenirs, and many stories, from her travels abroad. When my parents divorced, my mom and I moved around a lot. I think there’s a certain nostalgia for the places and moments you remember from your past and those you dream about visiting. Art, music, and film provided a portal to those places and times I was dreaming about.

Q:

Tell us about your role at Saatchi.

A:

I am Senior Curator and Art Advisor on the Curation and Art Advisory team. We have several members on this team, as well as on our Hospitality team. We strive to elevate the works of the artists we represent while simultaneously servicing the needs of our independent collectors and design professionals. We review newly listed artworks daily and curate collections for our marketing collections, catalogs, and other public-facing features. We work with clients to determine the best pieces for their collections or projects, from the novice collector buying their first piece to significant multi-unit developments and hotels. We also facilitate bespoke commissions and assist with delivery and installation. Lastly, we travel regularly to the International editions of The Other Art Fair, where Saatchi Art artists exhibit their works over four days in locations including London, Sydney, Los Angeles, and New York. It’s fantastic to connect with the artists in person and see their pieces up close and personal.

If someone is interested in working with me, or a member of the curation team, we offer complimentary art advisory services. To get started, clients can take this short survey
