Collin Blaney
Blaney's image provides an escape into the surreal world that is our planet Earth.

Q:
Can you please tell us more about creating your winning image, “Desert Oasis”?
A:
This photo was almost more about the journey than the photo itself. It’s funny, when I look at the image it seems to be such a calm and peaceful scene (which it was). But trekking out miles in the desert to get here was a lot of work and then on the way back a friend got their car stuck in the dirt so we ended up being out here until 2am. Thankfully we had a speaker and some cold beers to save the night.
Q:
Since you do a lot of commercial work for big brands, can you tell us more about how this image is different or how it fits into your brand work?
A:
This is the kind of work I enjoy to do for fun. Large grand landscape with a person in frame to show a sense of scale. My commercial work is very different than this.
Q:
I see you work primarily in color. What does color photography mean to you? Why photograph versus any other medium of expression?
A:
Color photography means capturing a moment the way it looked in that moment. I like to try and give an accurate representation of where I was and what I shot.
Q:
What are you working on next?
A:
Right now I am working on a photo book. It’s my first one so I’m really excited to finish up.
Q:
Who are some of the photographers you admire?
A:
Emmet Sparling, Megan Batson are a few off the top of my head that I pull a lot of inspiration from.
