About Artist
Jacob Surland
Jacob Surland is an international award-winning Fine Art photographer, based in Roskilde, Denmark. He captures mostly cityscapes and building portraits. Jacobs goal is not to document, but rather change them into unique and beautiful artworks that exist in the no-mans-land between reality and the surreal. Since 2020 Jacob Surland has been full-time fine art photographer, with 100% focus on his art. In 2017 he won a fifth prize as an artist in Florence Biennale in the category Photography. 2021 a first prize in Mono Awards, in Architecture. He has also exhibited at Haegeumgang Theme Museum, South Korea. Jacob has exhibited internationally in Art Monaco 2014, Art Shopping at Carousel du Louvre in 2015 and 2017, Montreux Art Gallery 2017 among others. He a has long-term cooperation with two galleries in Copenhagen, capital of Denmark. As an artist, Jacob Surland has been following the same path since he started as an artist. When he has photographed a photo, he takes control of the scene and creates his vision in the photo. This approach is the same as a painter would make to a scene. He adds lights, change colors in a very controlled and conscious manner, to create something else, something unique, his vision, based on the photo. This is only possible through highly complicated and precise digital artwork. In many ways it is in close resemblance to hyper-realistic painting, only using digital tools to paint and a photo as the canvas. The same knowledge of light and colors is relevant.
