Peter O’Hara is an adventure filmmaker and photographer whose work blends cinematic precision with a deep respect for wild places. He began his career in Toronto’s television industry, honing his skills as a cinematographer, editor, and visual storyteller on productions for networks like Discovery Channel. While training as a Director of Photography, he picked up a still camera to better understand light and composition. What started as an exercise quickly evolved into a parallel creative path. Photography became the discipline that sharpened his eye, shaped his style, and eventually redefined his career.
His early commercial work with brands such as IKEA, Buick, and Lexus gave him a foundation in production and visual narrative, but it was travel assignments — including collaborations with Switzerland Tourism — that first hinted at the career he would ultimately build. An extended trip to New Zealand proved pivotal. Immersed in mountains, coastlines, and rapidly changing conditions, he discovered a love for adventure photography and the physical pursuits that come with it. That experience shifted his trajectory toward outdoor storytelling and the pursuit of landscapes that require commitment, endurance, and curiosity.
Now based in the Canadian Rockies, Peter is known for photographing remote mountain environments, glacier systems, and weather-shaped landscapes. His work ranges from editorial and commercial assignments to documentary storytelling, often weaving together stills, motion, and aerial cinematography. As a Transport Canada-certified Advanced Drone Pilot, he incorporates aerial perspectives into his projects, adding scale and atmosphere to the environments he photographs.
Peter has collaborated with clients including Disney, HGTV, The Property Brothers, Destination BC, Travel Alberta, ATCO, and multiple regional tourism boards. His visual work for the Invictus Games captured stories of resilience and determination on an international stage. His images have appeared in National Geographic, Canadian Geographic, Smithsonian, and other leading publications.
An award-winning creator, Peter has been recognized by the Shorty Awards and the WAVE Elevate Creative Fund and has received accolades in national photography competitions, including first place in the Canadian Wildlife “Human Connection to Nature” category. His photographs have been shortlisted in highly competitive contests, with multiple images chosen from among tens of thousands of submissions. These recognitions, along with his editorial contributions, have helped establish him as a trusted voice in mountain and wilderness photography.
Today, Peter lives in the heart of the Rockies with his partner Jenna, where they co-run Silver Fern Productions. Their work focuses on landscape photography, adventure filmmaking, and workshops designed to help others experience the power of wild places. What drives Peter’s craft is the same force that first pulled him toward a camera: the pursuit of light, the draw of rugged landscapes, and the desire to tell meaningful visual stories shaped by the natural world.
