About Artist
Cat Leedon
Cat Leedon is a neurodivergent single mother of two, a survivor of breast cancer, and has been an avid photographer for 10 years. As a Documentary Family Photographer Cat aims to provide an empowering and cathartic experience to the families she works with, both in Australia and globally. Driven to remove the mask of perfection and question the norms of society, she embraces the hardships, oddities and humour of life through her work. At a personal level, in 2021 Cat was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 36. Throughout her cancer treatment, she produced a series of self-portraits as a form of protest against the smiling pink "warrior", a way to connect with others going through breast cancer and cancer in general, and as art therapy to process her emotions and physical reality. Works from this series have resulted in being a finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2022, Australian Photography Awards, and other highly regarded awards.
