Owl Taxi
A trio of shrieking grackles flew at this barred owl, trying to get it to leave its perch in the cypress tree. Anticipating the owl's flight, I raised my camera. What I didn't anticipate when I pressed the shutter was that a grackle would be on the owl's back carrying an anole lizard in its beak.

Rebecca (Becky) DePorte is an award-winning wildlife photographer. Her photographs have been published in USA Today, FotoNostrom, BirdWatching Magazine, Gardener’s Journal, and Backroads active travel catalog. In 2024 she received awards from International Photography Awards, Audubon Photography awards, and the 24th Julia Margaret Cameron Award. Becky teaches Wildlife Photography at Princeton Adult School. Her favorite subjects to photograph are animals with fur or feathers. Each time she photographs a new species she researches its history, conservation status, behavior, and habitat.
