On Church Street, Bo Kaap

I spent Covid living in the Bo Kaap, Cape Town. A quiet desolation set in on what is usually a vibrant neighbourhood. In this image, my neighbour Shuabe waters the bare lemon sapling on his verge, as an amazing brooding cloud formation spiralled up over Table Mountain. Shot on 35mm B&W film.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Media Studies from Rhodes University in 1997.  Working in a mix of digital and film, his photographic style combines traditional street and contemporary South African portraiture photography: compositional quirk meets real life documentary context.
