About Artist
Roberto De Mitri
Born in Italy, graduated in Economics at the University of Bologna, I have always loved photography, but I started taking pictures relatively recently, when I the chance to buy my first camera. A love that, however, over time, not only grew, little blazing spark which vehemently turns into a lively fire, but it developed in something more structured. From moment of simple creative fun, this passion evolved in a more mature and primary need. Which was (and is) the need to make of photography an expressive moment. Gradually, photography became my congenial medium of expression, through which my visceral need to communicate feelings, sensations, upsets, finally found realization. Photography was the way to give a face to ghosts, as to the deepest and unconscious turmoils of the soul. The camera, a medium through which is possible to explore a dimension that belongs not to the sensorial and rational experience, but to the experience of suggestion, of irrational and of the unreal. Consequently, photography refrains from imitating the external appearance of the real, slavishly reflecting what are the stereotyped features of the material. And, at the same time, the images became increasingly rough and dark, more and more indefinite and emotional. If and where black and white guarantees depth and thickness to the photographic language, giving it evocative strength and emotional impulse, LE can open new spaces of vision, creating surreal and metaphysical scenarios, unreal places as if they arose directly from the depths of our unconscious. Therefore photography never assumes the function of providing a merely descriptive or aesthetically artificial reproduction of the real, but becomes metaphorical expression and manifestation of a feeling. Allegorical illustration of the transience and emptiness of life. Of an existential condition profoundly marked by the sense of impermanence and chaos. awards and prizes: - 9th BnW Spider Awards 2014, 1st Place, Outstanding Achievement in Fine art: Amateur; - IPA 2015, 2nd place in Fine Art: Abstract Non Pro; - 11th Black and White Spider Awards 2016, 1st Place, Outstanding Achievement in Abstract: Amateur - Honor of Distinction - Photographer of the Year; - IPA 2018, First Place in Fine Art: Abstract Non Pro; - 14th Black and White Spider Awards 2019 - Category: Abstract - 2nd Place - Merit of Excellence; - IPA OneShot 2019: Street Photography - 1st Place - Winner OneShot: Street Photography – Specials; - Lensculture, Black & White Photography Awards 2021, Finalist;
