Harald Hochmann is an Austrian-born, Auckland-based, multi-award-winning photographer whose work spans more than four decades. His photography encompasses landscapes, seascapes, architecture, street photography, portraiture, and abstract art, reflecting a lifelong fascination with the world through the lens. Beginning with analogue photography in the 1980s, he documented places, people, and everyday life across different countries. These early photographs have become a visual record of changing cities, cultures, and moments in history, capturing scenes that in some cases no longer exist. Today, his artistic interests extend from documentary photography to creative abstraction and minimalism. His distinctive approach to abstract photography emphasizes in-camera techniques, including intentional camera movement and optical effects, transforming familiar subjects into unexpected compositions of light, form, and colour. His work has received international recognition through numerous awards and exhibitions in FIAP-patronized photographic salons across more than 50 countries.
