Lion Night

When night falls on the African plains, lions emerge in moonlight and stars. They rest, hunt, and roam, shifting between guardian, wanderer, and dreamer. Together, the images capture the nocturnal savanna, where time slows and its hidden beauty is revealed.

About Artist

Tateyuki Adachi

Nature photographer / Director / Editor I was born in Tokyo in 1970. In 2001, I became president of Royal Arts Co., Ltd., a company with offices in Japan and San Francisco that develops its business globally. In 2015, I founded green bean-to-bar chocolate, which has since been awarded the world’s best award ten times. In 2021, I began working full-scale as a nature photographer focused on the great outdoors. In June 2025, I held my photo exhibition “LION NIGHT – The Real Full Moon” at the Hall des Maréchaux in the Louvre Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. This highly acclaimed exhibition opened the door to the international community and received significant recognition from the French photography world. In 2021, I released four nature photography books, beginning with “Into the Deep Forest: From the Sea Forest to the Forest Sea.” In recent years, through UNCOLORED MAGAZINE, where I serve as editor-in-chief, I have been developing creative activities that span nature, crafts, philosophy, and sports, guided by the belief that “the world is more interesting with nourishment and curiosity.” Photographer: In 2025, I held a solo exhibition at the Hall des Maréchaux in the Louvre. I capture the beautiful world with the motto, “I don’t photograph nature. I live beside it.” “Into the Deep Forest: From the Sea Forest to the Forest Sea” (2021)
In this work, I photographed the “sea forest,” the vibrant coral reefs characteristic of Japan, and used a drone to capture the lush green “forest sea” from above. Japan’s subtropical landscapes are brimming with vitality and overflowing with new life. “Ngorongoro: A Wild Family Living in the Crater” (2021)
Ngorongoro in Tanzania is a wildlife paradise formed within a massive crater. I captured the raw ecosystem of roughly 25,000 wild animals living there from an unprecedented perspective, using tools that included my own homemade high-definition FPV drone with more than 50 million pixels. “SERENGETI: A Million Wildebeests Risk Their Lives on a River Crossing” (2022) The film captures the massive migration of one million wildebeest in Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania. The sight of lions racing to escape predators, kicking up clouds of dust, and crossing mighty rivers at the risk of their lives is simply breathtaking. “LION NIGHT” (2023)

This movie is my first attempt at nighttime filming in Serengeti National Park. Using cutting-edge robotics — drones equipped with special LED lights and remote-controlled cameras designed specifically for filming in the dark — I captured wild animals living in the deep night. “LION NIGHT: REAL FULL MOON” (2025)
In this work, I follow wild lions as they search for their true selves — for “what it means to be alive, here and now” — ultimately arriving at the moment of the full moon. With significantly upgraded equipment, including LED-equipped lighting drones and a custom-built 8-meter arm, I captured “REAL FULL MOON” footage from close enough to hear their breathing. Film Maker: “The Taste of Nature: How to Make the World’s Best Chocolate” (2021)

This film won the Grand Prize in the Feature Documentary category at the PRPL FORK Food Film Foto Fest, a Vancouver International Film Festival in Canada. “The Taste of Nature II: Searching for the Mythical Cacao” (2025)
In this film, I set off on a journey deep into Peru in search of cacao for delicious chocolate. There, I encounter the legendary cacao variety Nacional, believed to have gone extinct 100 years ago.
