About Artist
Abigail Gossage
As a young student, Ottawa-based photographer Abigail Gossage took a darkroom course at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende. She was inspired for life. After a hiatus of some thirty years to raise a family, Gossage returned to photography and her inspiration. She is known today for her scenes of urban spaces and rural landscapes. In the city and the country, at home and abroad, Abigail Gossage continues to explore contemporary narratives through both medium-format film and digital media. One of the founding members of Studio 255, Abigail Gossage shows her work both as a solo artist and as part of the studio group. Recent exhibitions have featured the cityscapes of Berlin, Paris, Moscow and Chicago and her hometown of Ottawa. Her photography has been exhibited in various Ottawa galleries and her work has been published in Canadian Camera, Photo Life, Photoshop, Black & White Magazine and, most recently, Lensworks Trilogies 2022. In October 2014, Abigail Gossage’s solo exhibition, Memories of Mexico 1958, was shown in the Ottawa City Atrium Gallery and in 2016 her work on abandoned factories, Industrial Stages, was shown in the Trinity Gallery at the Shenkman Centre. In 2019 one of her images was featured in the biennial exhibition Figureworks. In 2014 and 2015, she was an Artist in Residence at the School of Photographic Arts: Ottawa (SPAO). In 2011, Abigail Gossage was a finalist in the Travel Photographer of the Year competition run internationally from Great Britain. Abigail Gossage’s photographs can be found in the Public Art division of the City of Ottawa and in private collections and boardrooms across the city.
